When I first started this blog, I would post an inspirational or motivational quote daily that I called the "Daily Pearl." After a few months, I changed the name to DP because they weren't exactly daily. I decided to see which were my inspirational posts for the
year by pageviews. Here they are (click on the link):
Call the paparazzi on myself!...Today is Monday Tuesday (lol) and I am starting a new chapter in my life. I'm feeling awesome (even though my mouth is still swollen from surgery last week) and highly favored!
Have a great day, perlas!
"I guess I got my swagger back. Truth." (LOVE Jay-Z!)
"You can get sympathy or you can get better but you can’t get both. You can be in your comfort zone or you can have growth, but you can’t have both. You can be interested or you can be sold-out-committed, but you can’t entertain both. You can have excuses or have results, but you can’t do both. Choose the path that develops your visceral fortitude."
Good morning, perlas! Last week was a long and busy one for me but I'm still here. Every day this week, the Daily Pearl will feature a music video. I will be traveling all this week and will definitely need some music to get me through. This song always gets me ready for the day. What about you?
What songs get you ready to face another day? Is there a song that gets you hyped for the possibilities of a brand new day? I'd love some input for the rest of the week...Besos, P&P.
A good deal happens in a man's life that he isn't responsible for. Fortunate openings occur; but it is safe to remember that such ''breaks'' are occurring all the time, and other things being equal, the advantage goes to the man who is ready.
- Lawrence Downs
"Home is a place we all must find, child. It's not just a place where you eat or sleep. Home is knowing. Knowing your mind, knowing your heart, knowing your courage. If we know ourselves, we're always home, anywhere. "
- Glinda, The Good Witch in "The Wiz"
Bonus: This is my favorite song from "The Wiz." This song is pure happiness to me...and well, it is a "Brand New Day."
I did. I think the words to this song are inspirational so I decided to feature it this morning (lyrics below). Enjoy!
"Black Butterfly" by Deniece Williams
Morning light, silken dreams take flight
As the darkness gives way to the dawn
You’ve survived, now your moment has arrived
Now your dream has finally been born
Black butterfly, sail across the waters
Tell your sons and daughters what the struggle brings
Black butterfly, set the skies on fire
Rise up even higher so the ageless winds of time can catch your wings
While you slept the promise was unkept
But your faith was as sure as the stars
Now you’re free and the world has come to see
Just how proud and beautiful you are
Black butterfly, sail across the waters
Tell your sons and daughters what the struggle brings
Black butterfly, set the skies on fire
Rise up even higher so the wind can catch your wings
Let the current lift your heart and send it soaring
Right your timeless message clear across the skies
So that all of us can read it and remember when we heed it
That a dream conceived in truth can never die, butterfly
Cos now you’re free and the world has come to see
Just how proud and beautiful you are
Black butterfly, sail across the waters
Tell your sons and your daughters what the struggle brings
Black butterfly, set the skies, set them on fire
Rise up even higher so the ageless winds of time can catch your wings
Fly butterfly, yeah, yeah
Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
"Ah, mastery... what a profoundly satisfying feeling when one finally gets on top of a new set of skills... and then sees the light under the new door those skills can open, even as another door is closing."
-Gail Sheehy
“Beauty is only skin deep. I think what's really important is finding a balance of mind, body and spirit. Somebody said to me not too long ago, 'Until you're twenty, you have the face you are born with, and after that you have the face you deserve', and I really loved that - the idea that you wear who you are on your face.”
- Jennifer Lopez
Do you see the EARRINGS???? OMG! Don't worry, I'm trying to find them so we can have a pair also...at least something similar LOL...Besos, P&P.
Keep a grateful journal. Every night, list five things that happened this day that you are grateful for. What it will begin to do is change your perspective of your day and your life. If you can learn to focus on what you have, you will always see that the universe is abundant; you will have more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never have enough.
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Harriet Tubman and could not choose just one quote. She was such a powerful and determined woman who risked her life daily for others, all in the spirit of freedom. So here are three of my favorite quotes. The power behind the second quote is just ridiculous- it gives me goosebumps....Besos, P&P.
"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
"I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger."
"I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves."
Giving back and going back is so important to me. Once we achieve success, it is essential for us to reach back for the girls coming up behind us. I have so many plans and ideas for Pearls and Polish to build enduring, positive relationships between young girls and women. After all, who best to teach them than us???
Check out this video of Beyonce surprising a group of girls at a school in New York City. That visit meant so much to them. Honestly, all they really want to know is that we care and by coming to their school, Bey showed that she did.
Their faces and squeals were priceless, weren't they?
But did you see the little Latina girl to the left of Bey? Working it!!! Loved her! Go girl!!!...Besos, P&P.
Power doesn't have to show off. Power is confident, self-assuring, self-starting and self-stopping, self-warming and self-justifying. When you have it, you know it.
People often say that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder,' and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.
Sometimes you've got to let everything go-purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything, whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you'll find that when you're free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.
